Review „Pure“ (Jennifer L. Armentrout) | Werbung

CAUTION: This is the second book of the Covenant-series. If you didn’t read the first book you might be spoilered. Click here to read my review of Half-Blood.

Fighting was in my blood, not running. This was where I was supposed to be and this definitely wasn’t my first time at the rodeo. I bolted across the room, dodging bodies of the good, the bad, and the downright ugly.

Pure, p. 352-353

After I read Half-Blood, I had to continue with the sequel. And I don’t know what it is with the books of this series but somehow I don’t manage making many breaks whilst reading. I finished this book in three nights because it was barely possible to stop reading and go to sleep. I had a long break between reading Pure and reviewing because there where some aspects about which I wanted to think about thoroughly; now I can finally write my thoughts down.

Alex’s adventure continues and comes to an amazing twist in this book. Whilst pursuing her objective to become a sentinel, life doesn’t really become easier for her, for she has to face another loss that really, really broke my heart. But she has two guys now who console and who are there for her: the pureblooded and therefore forbidden Aiden, and the Apollyon Seth who seems to be her soulmate in so many ways.

In the beginning I feared this would become a triangle relationship which, generally, I find tedious. This being one of the aspects I had to think a lot about, I came to the conclusion that the whole situation between the three is really authentic – at the most. Considering her age and her situation, I understand that she loves the one and feels attracted to the other thanks to their bond, and I also think it’s natural that the two guys hate and rival against each other. The author describes these feelings in a very credible and natural way so my fears where partly unwarranted – but I still think that this will be an issue till the end of the series, I’m very excited to find out about the outcome of this.

My favorite part of the book was when they were on a ball at the Covenant in New York where a certain incident with a potion had very interesting effects on Alex’s behavior and became a particularly entertaining part, that I won’t forget so easily. And this is why I love Jennifer’s books so much: the mix of action, love and humor is such a good one that reading her books is a very special experience.

Pure the second book of the Covenant – series of Jennifer L. Armentrout is just as captivating, intriguing and as much of a page-turner as the previous book. Alex’s development is amazing and despite some fears and doubts the whole story could still take my breath away. I love this world, I love Alex, Aiden and Seth, and I love the whole setting. I can’t wait but have to continue reading immeditely. This book is just amazing!

Deutsche Kurzrezension

For Alexandria, being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn’t exactly awesome – especially when her ‚other half‘ is everywhere she goes. Seth’s in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom – so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her memories of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies – creatures determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods… and that includes Alex. If that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters weren’t bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude… or killing her.
